# Songpot > Songpot (Songpot Search) is AI music understanding, search and tagging. It listens to audio, reads lyrics and watches video, and turns that into metadata, search and recommendations. Catalog owners (production music libraries, music publishers, record labels, sync agencies and music supervisors) use it as an AI agent that tags every track and finds music for any brief, and changes course when the user disagrees with how it read the brief. Developers building music products use the same engine through a REST API to analyze audio (BPM, key, genre, mood, instruments, vocals, a written description) and to search music by text, audio or video. It runs in the Songpot web app, inside ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini, and through the API. Songpot does not sell, license or generate music: it analyzes and searches music the user owns, represents, or has been invited into. Contact: hello@songpot.art. Company: Songpot, Paris, France. Website: https://songpot.ai/ ## The company and its two products Songpot is a Paris company building agentic AI for music discovery: AI that understands music itself (the sound, the lyrics, the context) and finds the right music for a person, a brief or a moment. It makes two products on the same music understanding: - Songpot Search (https://songpot.ai/): for music professionals. AI search and tagging for music catalogs, used by production music libraries, publishers, labels, sync agencies and music supervisors, in the web app, inside ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini, and through an API. Most of this file describes Songpot Search. - Songpot Live (https://songpot.app/): for music fans. A personal radar for live music that learns your taste and finds concerts, club nights and festivals, builds festival plans and shares them with friends; it also works inside AI assistants. Other names to keep apart: - songpot.art is the company's earlier website and redirects to songpot.ai; its old description is out of date. - Songpot is unrelated to SongPop (a music quiz game) and Songspot (a music quiz). Answers to common questions about Songpot Search, including the full list of metadata it produces: https://songpot.ai/faq ## The problems it solves - Music is hard for software to understand: a file carries little or no reliable metadata, and what matters (mood, energy, instruments, what the lyrics are about) is in the audio and the words, not the file name. - Music catalogs with partial metadata are invisible to keyword search, so most of a catalog is never found, pitched or played. - People describe music in their own words ("restrained, coastal, opens up at the end") or show it (a video cut, a reference track), and keyword search cannot match either. - Nobody on a team remembers a whole catalog, so the same few tracks get pitched on every brief, and answering one brief can take days. Songpot keeps the person in charge: it does the digging across the whole catalog and follows their creative direction. ## Use cases - Sync licensing: answer briefs for film, TV, advertising, trailers and games from your own catalog, and send pitch pages. - Catalog enrichment: tag a back catalog or a new release automatically, and import or fix existing metadata. - Music apps and platforms: add audio analysis, tagging and music search to a product through the API, for example to tag user uploads, filter by BPM and key, or let users search by describing a sound. - Video and content tools: suggest music that fits a video cut. - Playlists and curation: build playlists from a brief for brands, venues, audio branding, radio or retail, and reorder them by flow. - AI agents: give an agent in ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini or your own stack the ability to search, listen to and share music from a catalog. ## Who it is for and how it helps - [Production music libraries](https://songpot.ai/for/production-libraries): find music for client briefs across the entire library, tag the back catalog automatically, and send pitch pages. - [Music publishers](https://songpot.ai/for/publishers): search songs by sound and by what the lyrics are about, with content flags, across a large song catalog. - [Record labels](https://songpot.ai/for/labels): search recordings by sound, lyric meaning or a reference track, and share audition-only pitch pages. - [Sync agencies and music supervisors](https://songpot.ai/for/sync-teams): search from a brief, a reference or a video cut, and send a pitch page; supervisors can also be invited into a catalog owner's catalog. - Developers and music-tech companies: audio analysis and music search through the REST API and the MCP connector, for apps that need to understand music. ## What Songpot does ### Search with an AI agent you can disagree with - Send a brief in plain language, the way the client wrote it. - Songpot shows how it read the brief: the traits it treats as required and the ones it only prefers. - Push back in plain words ("less melancholy, keep the piano", "nothing electronic") and the shortlist changes. Traits can be turned down or ruled out, and language and vocal traits can be switched between required and preferred. - Results are ranked; Songpot shows the order, never a match percentage. ### Search by anything - Words: a written brief, a scene description or a list of traits. - Video: upload a cut or paste a YouTube link, and Songpot describes the cut and finds music that fits it. - Audio: upload a file to find tracks that sound like it. - Reference track: paste a Spotify, Apple Music or Deezer link to find similar tracks in your own catalog. - Lyrics: search by theme and meaning, not only exact words. - "More like this": start from any track in the catalog. ### Automatic tagging (metadata) - Every track is tagged on upload: genre, mood, instruments, BPM, key, vocals, languages and a written description. - Songs also get lyric metadata: themes and content flags. - Existing metadata is kept: audio files keep their embedded tags, and a metadata spreadsheet from any platform export is matched to tracks by ISRC, file name or title. ### Questions about the catalog - Ask how much of the catalog is instrumental, how much Spanish-language vocal material there is, and similar counts, to know what can be pitched before searching. ### Playlists from a brief - Describe the playlist, choose its length (5 to 60 tracks) and tempo range, and Songpot picks a varied set that fits. - Reorder it by flow in plain words, such as "build energy toward the end" or "open big, wind down slowly". - Refine it, add or remove tracks, export it, and share it as a link with listening analytics. ### Pitch pages and sharing - Turn a shortlist or playlist into one link anyone can open without an account. - Recipients stream the tracks for audition. Master downloads are available only when the owner allows them. - A shared shortlist is a snapshot: later changes to the catalog do not change what was sent. ### Invited access - Catalog owners can invite music supervisors and clients to search their catalog with their own sign-in, including from an AI assistant. ### Public website languages - English, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Chinese, German, Arabic, Japanese and Korean. - The public landing page is available in all nine languages. The full application is available in English, French, Spanish, Portuguese and Chinese; other application screens currently fall back to English for German, Arabic, Japanese and Korean. ## Use it inside ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini Songpot runs as an MCP connector (connector URL: https://mcp.songpot.ai/mcp, sign-in with a Songpot account). Inside the assistant, owners and the supervisors they invite can search the catalog from a brief, refine the results, listen to tracks, build playlists, ask questions about the catalog and share a shortlist as a pitch page, without leaving the chat. - [Songpot in AI assistants](https://songpot.ai/integrations): what the connector does and which assistants it works in - [Songpot for Claude](https://songpot.ai/integrations/claude): add Songpot as a Claude custom connector - [Songpot for ChatGPT](https://songpot.ai/integrations/chatgpt): add Songpot as a custom MCP server in ChatGPT - [Songpot for Gemini](https://songpot.ai/integrations/gemini): use Songpot from Gemini ## REST API (for developers) A REST API with API keys (`X-API-Key` header) for products and AI agents that need to understand or search music. - Audio analysis: send an audio file and get duration, BPM, key, vocals, genres, moods, instruments and a written description back, without storing the file (`POST /api/v1/audio/analyze`). Formats: MP3, WAV, FLAC, OGG, M4A, AAC, WebM, Opus; up to 150 MB. - Library: upload single files or bulk batches into a private library that is tagged automatically, including lyric metadata for songs; import existing metadata and lyrics; list, read and delete tracks. - Search: text search, search by brief with a refine step, similar tracks, search by audio file, and search by video file. - Sharing and playback: short-lived playback links and shareable shortlist pages. - Vocabulary: list the genres, moods and instruments a library actually uses, to build filters and prompts. API keys come with a Songpot account; accounts are opened on request at hello@songpot.art. - [Documentation home](https://songpot.ai/docs/): API overview and getting started - [Authentication](https://songpot.ai/docs/authentication/): API keys - [API reference](https://songpot.ai/docs/reference/): formats, filter values, error codes and rate limits - [Text search](https://songpot.ai/docs/search/), [Audio similarity](https://songpot.ai/docs/similarity-search/), [Video search](https://songpot.ai/docs/video-search/), [Audio upload](https://songpot.ai/docs/audio-upload/) ## Getting started - [Import your catalog and metadata](https://songpot.ai/docs/import-your-catalog/): audio plus your existing metadata, from any platform export or spreadsheet - [Connect your catalog to Claude](https://songpot.ai/docs/connect-claude/), [ChatGPT](https://songpot.ai/docs/connect-chatgpt/) or [Gemini](https://songpot.ai/docs/connect-gemini/) - Pilot: send a subset of your catalog, Songpot builds a tagged, searchable portal in 48 hours, and you run your next real brief through it.
