Connect your catalog to Claude
Songpot puts your music catalog inside Claude. Describe what the music is for (a scene, a spot, a trailer, a brand) and you get a ranked shortlist you can play in the chat, adjust in plain words and send to a client as a link.
A connector is how Claude uses another tool for you. Songpot’s connector uses MCP, the open standard for this, so setup is one web address and one sign-in. Nothing to install.

Connect
-
In Claude on the web or desktop, open Settings → Connectors.
-
Choose Add custom connector, name it
Songpot, and paste:https://mcp.songpot.ai/mcp -
Save, then click Connect. Sign in to Songpot and approve access.
-
You land back in Claude with Songpot enabled. Ask:
What is in this catalog?
A working connection answers with the genres, moods and instruments your catalog actually uses.
If authentication shows as None when you add it, close the dialog and add the connector again. Your organization’s settings may decide who can add connectors.
claude mcp add --transport http songpot https://mcp.songpot.ai/mcpThen run /mcp in Claude Code and choose Songpot to sign in.
If whoever runs the catalog gave you a key (a long string starting
songpot_), put it in the connector’s configuration, never in a chat message.
claude mcp add --transport http songpot \ https://mcp.songpot.ai/mcp \ --header "X-API-Key: songpot_live_YOUR_KEY_HERE"Any other MCP client: add an HTTP (streamable) server at the same URL with the
X-API-Key header. Authorization: Bearer <key> also works.
What you can do
| Ask for | What you get |
|---|---|
| A shortlist from a brief | Ranked tracks from your catalog, each with a one-line reason. Paste the client’s brief as is. |
| A change | ”Less club-y.” “Keep the strings, lose the choir.” Only the part you named changes. |
| A listen | A small player in the chat, or a page with exactly those tracks. |
| A link for the client | A listen-only shortlist page that opens with no account. |
| More like one track | Other tracks in the catalog that sound like it. |
| What the catalog holds | The genres, moods and instruments it is tagged with. |
| A working playlist | A private playlist saved to your account, reordered as you like. |
Get better results
Describe it the way you would to a person.
warm acoustic guitar for a slow montage, nothing with vocals
works better than acoustic, warm, instrumental, 90bpm. What the music is
for decides most of whether a track fits.
Be strict only where you mean it. Tempo, key, language and vocals are treated as requirements: a track that misses one is left out. Everything else (genre, mood, instruments, era, lyric themes) moves tracks up the list without excluding any. Eight requirements at once usually means no results.
Refine instead of starting over. When something is close, say what is wrong with it. A fresh brief tends to bring back what you just rejected.
Read the order. Results are ranked; there is no match score. “Nothing is tagged Funk; the catalog has Disco and Soul” tells you the catalog’s own words, and an empty answer to a specific ask means the catalog does not have it.
Good to know
- It searches one catalog: the one your sign-in (or key) belongs to.
- Playback is an audition stream, never the master file. Downloads, rights and pricing stay with the catalog owner and the Songpot web app.
- Spotify, Apple Music or YouTube links do not work in the chat. Describe the reference, or paste the link into search in the Songpot web app.
- It only remembers the current conversation.
If it is not working
| What you see | What to do |
|---|---|
| Nothing comes back | Drop a requirement (tempo or key) and ask again. |
| Everything is wrong the same way | Say so in one line: “these are all too energetic." |
| "Not authorized” | The connection lacks a permission; whoever issued it can add it. |
| ”Rate limited” | Wait the number of seconds it names. |
| Authentication showed None | Remove the connector and add it again. |
| Connect sends you nowhere | The connector is not set up for sign-in; ask for a key. |
