Import your catalog and metadata

You don’t have to retype anything to start with Songpot. Bring two things you already have, your audio files and your metadata spreadsheet, and Songpot lines them up.

On top of that, Songpot analyses every track itself: genre, mood, instruments, BPM, key, vocals, languages, a written caption, and for songs, lyric themes and content flags.

Step by step

  1. Export your audio, preferably as MP3 or AIFF. Most music platforms let you download a playlist or a whole catalog as a ZIP. MP3 and AIFF files usually carry their metadata inside the file, including tags; WAV files usually don’t.

  2. Export your metadata. A CSV or Excel export from your current platform, or the spreadsheet you already keep. Some platforms produce this export through their support team.

  3. Upload the audio to Songpot. Unzip the download and drag the folder into Songpot. Large catalogs upload in the background, and each track becomes searchable as soon as it’s analysed.

  4. Import the spreadsheet. Open Settings → Import and choose the file. Songpot matches each row to a track by ISRC, then file name, then title and artist, and shows you what will change before saving anything. By default it only fills fields that are empty, so it never overwrites edits you’ve made.

Any column layout

Any CSV, TSV or Excel sheet works, whatever the columns are called. Common names like Track Title, Writers, Sub Genre or Keywords are recognised automatically. For anything else, choose what each column means in the preview. A column that isn’t needed can be skipped.

A row is only applied when it matches exactly one uploaded track. Rows that match several tracks (two songs both called Intro) are listed and left alone. To fix them, add an ISRC or file name column.

Questions

Do I have to stop using my current tools? No. Many teams keep their existing platform for storage and delivery and use Songpot to search and pitch. Imports can be repeated whenever you add music.

Does WAV work? Yes for audio, but WAV files usually don’t carry metadata. If you only have WAVs, the spreadsheet import brings the metadata across instead.
